Migration & Getting Started
How long does migration take?
Most IT Glue and Hudu migrations finish in 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the size of the tenant. Very large tenants can run across several days because IT Glue limits API calls to 9,500 per day; the Lexful migration app pauses and resumes on its own when the quota resets.
The app runs the whole migration in the background, with retries and automatic recovery after a reboot or a network drop. It only reads from the source, so nothing changes in IT Glue or Hudu.
What migrates from IT Glue?
The Lexful migration app brings across:
Organizations, locations and contacts
Domains and SSL certificates, with their expiry dates, so they show in Expirations on day one
Configurations and interfaces
Flexible asset types and their records
Documents with formatting, attachments and inline images
Applications
Passwords and TOTP seeds, when Include passwords was ticked in the IT Glue export
Passwords embedded in flexible assets
Related items between assets, captured in the optional second step of the app
IT Glue tag fields, which become live links to the referenced asset
Not migrated:
Users, groups and asset permissions. You apply permissions in Lexful after the import; see Six Steps to Success, Part 4
Checklists
Logs and version history
Password categories and password folders
Document folders
Regions and user metrics
Tickets
Document content blocks of type Heading, Step and Gallery, which IT Glue's export does not include (IT Glue help page)
Step by step: Migrate data from IT Glue to Lexful using the Lex migration Windows app. If records were skipped, see Why did some of my data get skipped/rejected during an import?.
What migrates from Hudu?
Companies, assets and their layouts, articles, attachments and inline images, contacts, passwords (including passwords embedded in assets), and related items, including relationships that cross companies. Hudu imports need migration app version 0.3.5 or later. Step by step: Migrate data from Hudu to Lexful using the Lex migration Windows app.
Do I need to re-train my team?
No. Most teams are productive within hours. Technicians ask Lex questions in plain English and get answers with sources, and the rest of the interface follows the patterns your team already knows. See How to use Ask Lex.
Can I try Lexful before migrating all of my data?
Yes. The migration app lets you choose which organizations to import, so you can start with a handful of clients and run Lexful alongside your current tool until your team trusts the answers. Nothing changes in the source system. When you are ready, bring the remaining organizations across.
What about other documentation tools?
IT Glue and Hudu imports are built into the migration app. For Passportal, export passwords to CSV from the Passportal interface and contact support to have the file ingested. For SharePoint, a Copilot agent can move documents into Lexful (see the SharePoint guide), or you can load files through the API (API guide). Anything else can be brought in through the REST API and MCP server. Starting with no prior tool works too, and it is the cleanest way to begin.
AI & Privacy
Is my information private?
Yes. We use your data only to run Lexful for you. We never sell, share or distribute it. Your documentation stays yours. Details are in our privacy policy.
Do you train AI models on my data?
Never. Lexful runs on AWS foundation models through Amazon Bedrock in inference-only mode. Your data is not stored, logged or used to train any model, ours or anyone else's.
What AI model powers Lex?
Amazon Bedrock gives Lexful access to the major foundation models. We choose the model that fits each task and move to newer models as they become available, with no change to the privacy guarantees above.
Can Lex access the internet or public data?
No. Lex answers only from your documentation and from the systems you connect to it. It does not browse the internet or pull from public sources. Admins can connect Ask Lex to tools that expose an MCP server, such as Liongard (setup guide); Lex queries those live when you ask and stores nothing from them.
How does Lex handle permissions?
Every answer is checked against your role-based access controls before it is returned, down to the individual record. You only see what you are authorized to see. Each answer cites its sources, and when Lex cannot find something it says so rather than inventing an answer.
Can I use my own AI (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor)?
Yes. The Lexful MCP server lets any MCP client query your Lexful knowledge directly, with your permissions enforced on every request. Setup: developer.lexful.ai/mcp/overview.
Security & Compliance
What security certifications does Lexful have?
Lexful is SOC 2 Type II compliant and audited annually; the report is available under NDA through the Trust Center. ISO 27001 is in progress, targeting Q4 2026. Lexful is GDPR compliant, payments run through a PCI DSS compliant provider, and an independent firm performs penetration testing at least once a year.
Where is my data stored?
In AWS data centers in the United States, encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher. Data never leaves our controlled infrastructure. An EU region is in progress as of October 2026; ask your account executive about regional hosting.
Do you offer SSO?
Yes. Your team can sign in with Microsoft, Google, an email login link, or Microsoft Entra single sign-on (SAML). Multi-factor authentication is supported. See Configure account sign-in methods and Set up Microsoft Entra single sign-on (SAML).
Where are your privacy policy and terms?
lexful.ai/privacy and lexful.ai/terms. The AI Fair Use Policy covers the AI features.
How do you handle password data from IT Glue or Hudu?
Passwords and OTP seeds migrate encrypted and are stored with AES-256 under keys dedicated to your tenant. Source-system permissions do not migrate, so you decide who can see which passwords in Lexful after the import (Six Steps, Part 4). Reveal and copy are separate permissions, and every password view is written to the audit log.

Product & Features
Does Lex come with ready-made actions?
Yes. In the document editor, Lex Actions summarize a document, review it for completeness, check for outdated information against your other records, standardize formatting, write new content, and rewrite, simplify, expand, translate or convert a selection into a table or steps. See How to utilize Lex actions in documents.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Admins open Settings, then Exports, choose a format and the organizations to include (leave the selection empty for the whole account), and download the finished ZIP. Decrypted passwords stay out of the file unless you turn on Include secrets. See Export organization data. You own your data and can leave with it at any time.
How do I see earlier Ask Lex conversations?
Open Ask Lex and use the history control to return to an earlier conversation. Follow-up questions keep their context within a conversation.
How do I show archived records in a list?
Open Filters on the list and turn on Include archived. Archived records stay separate from active ones and cannot be edited until they are restored. See Personalize asset lists and folder views.
Comparison & Differentiation
Why use Lexful instead of staying with a legacy documentation tool?
Legacy tools are static storage with keyword search that matches titles. Lexful reads the content of documents, fields and attachments, answers questions in plain English with sources, and keeps documentation current with Lex Actions. Migration takes an afternoon and runs alongside your current tool.
Why use Lexful instead of a general-purpose LLM (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT) for documentation?
A general-purpose LLM does not know your clients, configurations or procedures, and it will invent a plausible answer when it does not know. It hallucinates for two reasons: the context window it operates from is simply too large, and the data underneath it is not structured.
Lexful runs MSP-grade AI. Ask Lex stands on an operational foundation of trusted, structured data that is kept up to date:
A context-engineered LLM that lives in the MSP and IT world
All of your MSP data and client assets are structured and connected to each other. The Lexful importer rebuilds every link in the knowledge graph, so nothing is orphaned
Record-level access control and a zero-trust framework
Your data never trains any AI model
Knowledge kept current through your integrations and with Skills
With that foundation, Ask Lex and your own agents query the right context instantly, anchored to the right client, with permission-aware answers. Every answer cites its sources, and when Lex cannot find something it says so instead of filling the gap.
You do not have to give up the assistant your team already uses. Lexful has an MCP server, so Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other MCP client can query your Lexful knowledge directly, with your permissions enforced on every request. Setup: developer.lexful.ai/mcp/overview.
Why use Lexful instead of Notion or another generic tool?
Lexful is purpose-built for MSPs and multi-tenant by design. Every client is its own organization with strict data isolation, so a technician or a contractor sees only the organizations and records they are granted, and one client's data never bleeds into another's. Each MSP account sits in its own database schema on top of that. Around it you get asset types for the things you document, a password vault with record-level permissions, and integrations with your PSA and RMM. Generic tools need heavy customization and have none of this out of the box.
Support & Team
What support do you offer?
Fin, our AI support agent, is available around the clock from the Support link in the app and in this help center, and answers most questions on the spot. Anything Fin cannot resolve goes to the support team by chat or email during business hours, 9am to 5pm Pacific, with a 24-hour response objective.
Do you offer implementation assistance?
Yes. Migration assistance is included; ask your account executive or support.
Who built Lexful?
Lexful was created by a team of industry veterans, including founders with deep experience building products for MSPs. We understand MSPs because we have lived it.
How can I request features or give feedback?
Use the Feedback option in the Lexful UI. Release notes are published on our changelog after every release.
