This article walks through how to migrate your Hudu data into Lexful using the Lex migration app on a Windows machine.
TL;DR: Download the Lexful Migration app, enter your Hudu and Lexful credentials, and run the migration.
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
API access enabled on your Hudu account - Hudu API Settings
Check the boxes for "View passwords" and "Export data"
A Windows computer or VM that can be dedicated to this task
Overview
The migration runs in three stages, all handled inside the app:
Credentials - Enter your Hudu and Lexful API keys
Orgs - Select which organizations (or all) to import into Lexful
Migrate - Run the main data migration
Step 1 - Download and Install the App
Download and extract the Lex Migration app: lex-migration-0.3.6-setup.exe.zip
Run the installer and launch Lex Migration once installation is complete.
Step 2 - Enter Credentials
On the Credentials screen, enter the following:
Hudu Base URL and API Key
Generate a Lexful API key in Platform > API keys. Copy Account ID from that page, and Key ID and Secret from the key dialog. In the migration app, these correspond to Lexful Account ID, Lexful API Key ID (or Lexful Key ID), and Lexful API Secret (or Lexful Secret). “API ID” in older instructions means Key ID, not the Secret. Copy the Secret when you create the key; it cannot be viewed again after closing the dialog.
Check Remember credentials to avoid re-entering these on future sessions. Click Next when done.
💡 Credentials are stored encrypted by the OS and never transmitted outside of the API calls themselves.
Step 3 - Choose organizations
Connection should be verified to Hudu and Lexful - Select specific Organizations, or all, to be migrated.
Testing one organization before a full migration
Select one organization first, then review its imported records in Lexful before expanding the migration.
Do not assume that importing the same organization again is a duplicate-free operation or that existing records will be left unchanged. Before importing the test organization again or switching to all organizations, contact Lexful Support to confirm the plan for your source and destination account.
Do not run overlapping migrations into the same Lexful account.
Step 4 - Run the Migration
The app will work through the following stages automatically:
Extracting data for your selected Hudu companies
Preparing and uploading extracted attachments, when available
Zipping and uploading the JSON extract
Hudu uses the API extraction flow; you do not need an IT Glue CSV export. The separate Related items step is for IT Glue and is not part of the Hudu wizard.
Progress is shown in real time. You can track the current upload stage and overall progress from the Migration Progress screen.
💡 You can close the window at any time by clicking "Minimize to Tray" in the bottom right corner. The migration continues running in the background via the system tray and can be paused or cancelled from there.
💡 You will get an email when the upload process starts, and another email when it completes. If it fails due to an error, you will be emailed the report and can contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.
If you cannot access your Lexful tenant, you can use the buttons in the app for Email support, Copy diagnostics, or Show logs at the bottom of the screen to contact Lexful support.
Migration History
The left panel in the app shows a log of all past migrations, including upload status, file names, data size, and timestamps. Use this to confirm that the migration upload completed successfully.
⚠️ Do not run multiple migrations simultaneously against the same Lexful account. If you need to restart a migration, contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.
