Configure Connectors and Sign In for Ask Lex

Connectors let Ask Lex use external tools during a conversation. They are different from data sources, which collect provider data for syncing into Lexful, and third-party integrations, which are configured in the partner’s product.

Open Connectors

Open Platform → Integrations → Connectors. You can also use Manage connectors from Settings → Skills. The page and actions available depend on your permissions and the connector’s access settings.

Create the connection

  1. If you can manage connectors, select New connector.

  2. Enter its name and the MCP server URL supplied by the provider.

  3. Select the provider’s authentication method. Use the provider’s instructions for bearer tokens, custom headers or OAuth client settings.

  4. For OAuth, create the connector, then connect your account before retrieving tools. If you change its authentication settings, save them before reconnecting.

  5. Use Retrieve tools or Refresh tools, choose the tools to enable, review access and save the changes.

Enable only the tools your team needs. A tool may read information or make changes in the external service. A connector’s name does not limit its permissions.

Sign in with OAuth

Each user connects their own external account. Open a connector you are permitted to use and select its connect action, then complete the provider’s sign-in. The connected status confirms that your account is linked; tools run with that account’s access.

Creating the connector or selecting it in chat does not complete OAuth. If the connect action or connector is missing, ask an administrator to review your access. A chat prompt cannot grant connector access or bypass the provider’s sign-in.

Use it in a conversation

  1. Open Ask Lex and enable the connector in the chat’s tool selector.

  2. Ask a specific question, for example “Use the Liongard connector to list the environments I can access.”

  3. Review any approval requested and check the result before acting on it.

Skills are separate reusable instructions. Selecting a skill does not authenticate its external tools.

If a tool is unavailable

Check your connector access, its enabled state, your authentication and the enabled tool selection. A provider can change its tool catalog; an authorized manager can refresh it and save the intended selection. If a request fails, record the visible error and time and contact support without sharing credentials.

If saving selected tools fails

Large connector tool catalogs are supported. If Save Changes reports an error, reopen the connector to check what was saved before trying again. Share the connector name and error with support without including credentials. Saving tool selections does not replace the user's authentication or the permissions required to use those tools.
